Site Policy

Hi, my name is Han and I'm an undergraduate computer science student at Boston University who wants to make a difference and a living simultaneously. I love making startups, and this one is my first attempt at social entrepreneurship.

Sudoku For Rainforests is based off of the philanthropic idea behind FreeRice, where users can play a vocabulary game to help feed the hungry through ad-based revenue. I have the same goal in mind, but I want to make my intentions clear, both for the users of this site as well as for my own personal records.

As for privacy, we neither request nor record any information about you.

I have set my salary capped at $250/week, which is an annual salary of $250 x 52 = $13,000, enough for me to pay rent, food, utilities, and hosting. I will not collect any salary before I donate the funds specified by user activity, and I will not collect any salary until this site reaches an average daily income of $50/day for 7 days in a row.

I will honor the donation amounts specified by user activity up to the total amount that Sudoku For Rainforests accrued in earnings; basically, I cannot currently pay for donations out of pocket if the site does not earn the amount that is specified by user activity.

If Sudoku For Rainforests earns more than the donation amount specified by user activity plus my maximum allowed salary, the additional funds will also go directly to the Rainforest Alliance at the end of each month.

Although I am under legal contract not to reveal my ad earnings, I can and will however post my donation receipts each month and my daily user activity to ensure that I have met my donation requirements.

I am currently working on other similar sites, with different games for different causes that I believe in. All of the sites will have the exact same policy. This does mean that if the number of sites I have is x, then I could potentially make $13,000 * x a year. However, I will keep a list of sister sites on the Links page of each site. Also, my desire is to focus on the issues I care about most, so my plan is definitely for x to be less than 5.

I am unfortunately not hiring employees for this venture, but I am an entrepreneur; if you are interested in tech startups, especially web-based startups, then I may be interested in you. However, I already have an excellent team of founders, so you'll have to impress me.

I hope this transparency is reassuring to you; it's certainly good for my accounting practice and to ensure that I keep my word. I also hope you enjoy Sudoku For Rainforests!
